Mel:
I've been trying to get a vanilla milkshake for one of my residents all week. I know how much she loves them and the last one I got her, just made her day. Two times this week Burger King was out of shake mix...but ALAS..TODAY they were not! I stopped by on my way back to work and picked up a large Diet Coke for me and a Vanilla Milkshake for her. She was eating lunch when I got back and I walked it into the dining room and put it by her plate. She looked at me and said...FOR ME!?!?!? I said, yes ma'am. She thanked me and I saw her wheeling around for the next two hours with it in her lap, taking sips. She would yell to me...LOOK WHAT I GOT!! And then wink.. so cute.

Because my Dad works for Sonic he has lots of sonic coupons for free stuff. So, I asked my Mom if I could have some. She said yes and I gave 2 of them to my bus driver. She said, thanks and that she's beginning to like that place now. I gave 2 of them to my teacher, I forget what she said. I gave one to a friend of mine. When I was in my classroom by the air conditioner thing and I accidentally dropped a sonic card in there that I was going to give to another friend. I told my teacher and she told someone at school and they couldn't get it out and they were going to fix it tonight.

It was recess and these two boys were playing a board game. I went to watch them. There was this boy that was cheering for one of the boys and the other boy got mad at him and said that he was going to rub peanut butter all over his face. The boy is really allergic to peanut butter and could die if he touches it or is by it. One of the boys told me that the boy who is allergic was over in the corner crying. I went over there and asked him what was wrong. He didn't want to tell me. I told him that he should talk to someone and explain what's going on. So, he then said he would talk to our teacher. After that, recess was over and I sat down. A boy that sits by me told me the story. I went to the boy who said that mean thing and told him that he is wrong and should never do that again. The boy could die from that and it's not funny. He said.. OK. And that's the story.

So, we were in class and we were doing this math project which was really hard. There was this boy that was sitting right by me that was stuck on his work. So, I went to his desk and explained how the problem worked and then he figured it out. I was happy to help him out.

My mom drove me down to the busstop and we stopped in front of our neighbor's house and I took her trash can up to her garage for her. I made sure to take mine when I got home from school too.

Well, my Mom told us to clean up the downstairs living room and it was really messy. Cole and Kendall were playing a game. I told them that they could keep playing their game. I cleaned it all up by myself. I was proud.

My Dad was working hard on our house. He was pulling up carpet and pulling staples out of the wood and pulling out our old wood floors. He's getting ready to tile. I thought I should help him out. I got the wheelbarrow and loaded the wood and pieces in it and took trips down to the fire pit. It was snowing and icing up but it wasn't that bad. I wanted to help Dad out.

I hate writing February..It just never looks spelled right. At work I have a routine. When I go to the post office and banks I swing by a gas station and get an extra large Diet Dr. Pepper. When I was at the gas station the woman who works there was ringing me up and we were talking about the weekend. She was excited to have 4 days off in a row and then she told me..today is my Birthday! I said, Happy Birthday and then I took my drink out to the car. I got in my car and I thought...she just told me it was her birthday, I should do something for her. I went back in and she wasn't behind the counter anymore. There was a guy there and I asked him what she liked to eat? I asked if she liked candy...he said, NO...NO?? There's a woman on this earth that doesn't like candy? I don't even understand that..so I was looking around for cookies and muffins, I didn't have a clue what to do at that point. She came walking back in and he yells to her..Hey, what kind of candy do you like? She yells back... I don't like candy. Then he looked at me and I started laughing because we both understood that her not liking candy was crazy and now what was I going to do? Then he says..You know, She LOVES cini-mini's from Burger King! Burger King was attached to the gas station. So I got super excited and ran next door and picked up some cini-mini's. I had them in my hands when she came around the corner at the same time I was coming around. I said..HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!! She said, No way!! haha Thanks sooooo much!! And we laughed a bit and I told the guy thanks behind the counter for the tip~

I was in class and we were doing writer's workshop. There was a girl and she was finishing her story's final copy. If she didn't finish she wouldn't be able to go the non-fiction party. She asked me to help her. I said yes and I helped her finish her final copy and she was able to go to the non-fiction copy.

Today at work was pretty busy...lots of things to catch up on and just happened to be one of the days that the residents really really wanted to talk! I had resident after resident wheeling in and starting to share stories. I was made for stories..I love them, I love to hear them and could possibly be addicted to listening to them. Sometimes it goes in waves where they will be in and just want to say hi but other times they will want to sit and share for a long time. I know they need that time to talk and I am working in their home and am totally privileged to share this time with them. I found myself struggling to keep up on work and give them attention...I decided to put my work down anytime during the day and pay attention to each resident and give them my total focus. Which meant that I might have to work OT or work super speed the next few days to catch up. Lots of good stories on this day...One resident wanted to tell me all about how Elvis was coming today and she was going to sing with him... : ) it was worth it.
